The use of Comfrey as a herbal balm for cuts and bruises is legendary.  Lawrence Hills, founder of what is now called Garden Organic (based at Ryton Organic Garden), was a great champion of the herb both for gardeners and for use at home.  He also highlighted its use an excellent pollen barrier when applied around the nostrils – a fact now adopted by a well-known brand of balms for hayfever sufferers.
